I'm so thrown and I don't know what to do (For Jack)
Hayley sat in her apartment staring at the six sticks spread out on her bathroom counter. Every single one was telling her the same thing and she had absolutely no idea how that was possible. Rebekah's words came back to haunt her, and she twitched away from them.
That wasn't possible.
One was, and she'd been a bit fretful for a couple of weeks, waiting for her period, which hadn't come and was what had prompted the drugstore run, the artifacts of which were now spread out in front of her. That didn't explain the moon, no, but maybe that was just a coincidence.
What was troubling, though, was...it was a little early. Granted, her periods had never been all that regular. And a couple of weeks before the full moon, she'd bled--true, only a little, but she didn't tend to have heavy ones, either, so. That, actually made it more likely she had been fertile with Jack and not using the condom was...a mistake.
That still made it...just a bit over two weeks. The test shouldn't really be able to work, yet, but she'd been a little freaked by the lack of a period. Decided to see. She'd been tired, achy, throwing up. Thought she had the stomach flu. But the tenderness in her breasts...well, she'd put that down to her period in New Orleans.
Which had to have been it, right? Just a confluence of coincidences and...okay, so the test was picking it up a little early, but. Well. Jack was from the future, right? Maybe that had something to do with it.
Please, God, let that have something to do with it.
Swallowing back the nerves, she knew she had to find out, so she wrapped one of the digital tests that read the most clearly in a paper towel, stuck it in her pocket, and headed downstairs to his apartment. Fidgeting at the door for a moment or two, she finally made herself knock and hoped he was there.

It didn't take him long to answer the door, with something like surprise. A split second glance at Hayley's face though, and he stepped back to let her in. "Hey. What's wrong?"
no subject
"Nothing's wrong, per se," she said, and, really, it wasn't, was it? Like...she didn't have much of a clue of how to be a mother, but a baby was family, at least, and maybe sooner than she'd intended, but even as freaked as she was, the thought of not having it, or giving it away, hadn't even entered her mind, which probably said something. "I just need to talk to you."

She thought for a few moments, trying to compose herself. "Okay. Before I say anything else, I just want to say...this is just a question and notification sort of thing. You were there for me when I rally needed an outlet and it was fun and I had a great time and I like you and all and hope you feel the same, but I don't expect anything." She glanced at him, frowning a little, just not wanting him to think she was playing him or something. "I'm not asking you for anything, and I can do this on my own. But I didn't want to not tell you, either, because that seemed...rude. Also, it's weird."
She took a breath, holding up a hand to preclude him saying anything. "Really, weird, actually, because it's not even been three weeks, yet, and so, from what I read on the Internet, I shouldn't be showing any signs yet and the test probably shouldn't be able to pick anything up, but. I'm a werewolf and you're from the future and I don't know how that might work together, so..."
Another deep breath, because God, how did you ask this sort of thing? "Do you have like...super-sperm or something? 'Cause..." She fished the test out of her pocket and held it up for him to read. "I'm pregnant."

Honestly, he'd done kids. Sort of. Ask Alice just how well he'd done, though, with his own and with hers. Hell, ask Jasmine's mother how good he was with kids. Because mostly? He killed them. Or avoided them. Or failed to be involved with them and ticked them off, by not growing older and... that he hadn't said something containing the words no and fuck aloud and repeatedly was probably some kind of miracle.
He shook his head after a moment. "I'm sorry, what was the question?" There was a question in there somewhere, right?
no subject
"The main one? If you've got some sort of super-fast sperm that accelerates pregnancy or something. Like, is the baby going to develop over the next month and claw itself out from inside me or whatever?"
Okay, that hadn't really occurred to her as something to check, but she was freaking out and after all the reassurances she'd tried to give him, him freaking out set off more of a panic alarm. Like--what the fuck was he panicking about? She was the one dealing. Unless it wasn't normal. Like he had some sort of mutated-future-alien sperm and she was going to die in the next few days.
...Possibly she shouldn't watch science fiction movies late at night, but it was a valid question in relation to his panic, okay?
Her hand flew to her stomach, clutching protectively, though who she was trying to protect was anyone's guess. "Am I going to die?"

She shoved the test back in her pocket, arms coming around herself. "So...that's all I have. I just...thought you should know. Like I said...I don't expect anything from you. You didn't sign up for this. So, you don't have to worry about that or me."

"I have no idea. No one's ever said anything about it being different than a human's, but I've never really asked, either. Or about onset of symptoms. The fast...I'm just going by what I read this morning."

"Not anyone who could get me pregnant. There was a guy a couple of weeks before I came here, but...vampires can't procreate. If they could, the world would be overrun."
No, really. She was pretty sure they had more sex than werewolves.

"We live in the same building, Hayley," he pointed out, with some weary amusement. "Let me know what you find out, when you find it out. Let me know if you need anything." She was new. She had no support system. They barely knew each other, but he could be at least quasi-decent, regardless. Or, well, try.

"There is that," she said, lips quirking in a wry smile. She tried to finish the water, got queasier, and stood. This was awkward enough without her hurling in his bathroom.
"I'll should go. I'll let you know whatever I find out."
She'd probably only ask for help if she was desperate, but she didn't say that.

She nodded and gave him a little smile, then...completely unsure of what to do, left and fled back upstairs to her room.
