A touch of over-imagination?

Rebekah and Elijah are both gone when Hayley wakes. Elijah, she knows, is at the college, teaching. Where Rebekah is, she's got no idea--there's no note in the kitchen when she goes down to make her tea. Shrugging, she doesn't really think much of it--she's slept in pretty late, a glance at the clock tells her. Clearly the danger of keeping vampire hours.
She's got class later this afternoon, but there are a few hours before that, and Elijah usually comes home for lunch, takes her back with him. Not that she can't do it herself, but...it makes him happy and whatever.
Still tired from the party, she wanders the house with her tea, bemused by how large it is, by the fact that she's here. She winds up in the parlor, picking at the piano keys, then pauses when she catches something out of the corner of her eye in the mirror. She's up off the piano bench, heart pounding, and spinning to the other side of the room, the part reflecting in the mirror, then back to the mirror. Nothing's there.
Shaking her head, she heads upstairs to get dressed for the day...and it happens again in the mirror at the top of the stairs. Another spin, almost slipping on the steps, but saved by her werewolf balance. It's weird, and she doesn't like it, thinks about calling Elijah, but...she's tired, right, and last night was Halloween. She's thinking too much about witches and the Other Side and dropping veils and all of that, obviously.
When it happens a third time in the bathroom mirror, someone almost overlaid over her own image but blurry in the steam (and when she wipes off the mirror, there's just her), she's officially spooked. She gets dressed quickly: long skirt, light sweater tunic, boots, and grabs her keys and heads downstairs. Whatever. She and Elijah can have lunch on campus. She is so not sticking around to be ghost-bait--or let her own imagination get the best of her.

He made sure Elijah and Rebekah weren't home and then went up to the door and knocked. Hopefully he could get some answers from the girl, or maybe he'd get a chance to snoop around for himself and discover a secret or two hidden within the walls of the big house.

Like, okay, how would he not be okay, and Damon wouldn't be smiling at her like that if he wasn't, but the idea that he'd come to see her didn't register.

At the moment, though, there was little but a moment to be startled, and then afraid as a woman in a long bloody dress raced at her with fingernails sharpened and hooked like claws.
Hayley was hardly helpless, even pregnant, but she barely had time to react before the woman was on her, and then every time she tried to lash back out, the creature seemed to disappear, reappearing behind her or beside her, slashing and stabbing before Hayley could make contact.

Whether he cared about her or not, standing by and watching her die was sure to be bad for his health, if the Originals were both so interested in her well-being. "Invite me in!" he shouted, pressing uselessly against the invisible barrier barring his entry.

The decision barely needed to be made. "Come in," she said with a growl, though the growl was for the woman, and it ended in a cry as something sharp--was that her nail--went through Hayley's shoulder, skewering her.

Date: 2014-01-09 12:42 am (UTC)"Yeah, that would be handy right about now, handsome," she said, looking around alertly.
Suddenly the thing was in between them, just appearing, hovering over Hayley and slashing, lightning fast, again and again, making the werewolf scream.

Date: 2014-01-12 09:39 am (UTC)"No kidding," he muttered, swearing as the apparition became solid again, getting between him and the wolf girl. He reached down to grab the tattered collar of the woman-thing, only to have it turn to mist again, leaving him off-balance enough that he went over. He caught himself on his elbows, keeping his full weight from hitting her, but close enough to get smeared with her fresh blood. Fortunately he didn't have any open wounds yet.
He scrambled to his feet, getting more of her blood on him in the process, and looked around wildly. This was getting annoying.

Date: 2014-01-19 09:07 am (UTC)"Hayley?" She calls out, worry clear in her voice. "Elijah? Jesse, stay here."
Rebekah barks it out, not considering that Jesse might not actually listen to her. She zips through the house, and what she sees is worse than what she's imagined. Damon standing over Hayley, covered in blood. She doesn't even pause before tossing him against a wall, holding him there with an arm across his neck. "What did you do to her?"

Date: 2014-01-20 12:16 am (UTC)Running through the house after Rebekah when Jesse came upon Hayley's he almost wished he had stayed where he was.
"Oh shit," he hissed, kneeling down next to Hayley. "Oh man, Rebekah she's lost a lot of blood, we need to get her to a hospital."

Date: 2014-01-21 02:38 am (UTC)Rebekah focuses her will on Damon, her words nearly a growl as she compels him, "don't move an inch."
She leaves him there, not considering that it might not work, crouching beside Hayley. "Hayley, can you hear me?"

Date: 2014-01-21 03:24 am (UTC)Even after the wounds have healed, raw nerves feel too sensitive. Her head is pounding and she's dizzy, but she can breathe and her eyes blink open, staring up at Jesse and Rebekah in confusion.
"What...Where's Damon?" There's concern there, cutting through the confusion, but not fear for a moment, though it flares after a moment. 'We have to get out of here. Something's here..."

Date: 2014-01-22 10:37 am (UTC)He followed Rebekah over to Hayley, staying on his feet and keeping an eye out for the stupid spirit who could still very well be here. "See?" he challenged from behind Rebekah when Hayley confirmed his story. "And the--" he looked at Jesse, wondering what he knew. "Hayley's right," he finished without mention of her wolfy status, watching their backs and resenting every second of it. "We should all get out of here."

Date: 2014-01-23 04:48 am (UTC)"I'm not bleeding anymore..." Which was important, but not nearly as much so as getting out. "She kept stabbing, and she was too fast. We definitely need to go..." Even if she felt too unsteady to take many steps.

Date: 2014-01-24 03:57 am (UTC)Jesse was all for saving everyone's ass. He told himself that if the thing attacked again the two vampires could handle it. He had to tell himself that because right now he was refusing to believe there was scarier stuff in the city than vampires, he needed to think that for his sanity.
"Where's Elijah?" he asked, worried that Elijah was maybe inside, almost dead in one of the rooms.

Date: 2014-01-24 06:10 am (UTC)She has to think, at Jesse's question, but shakes her head a little, finally. "Elijah went on to the university. I was running late this morning, so I told him I'd see him at lunch. Then...I don't know. I kept having the feeling I was being watched and seeing things in the mirrors. Damon got here and we were talking and then this thing just...attacked from nowhere."

Date: 2014-01-24 08:32 am (UTC)He walked backwards, half-listening to their conversation and half-anticipating another attack. Hayley's explanation made him hope silently that Rebekah would be too busy rescuing her brother's precious pet hybrid to pursue a line of questioning on why he'd happened to be here to help Hayley. At least until he was less distracted and could come up with a convincing lie.

Date: 2014-01-24 08:53 am (UTC)"We can go to my apartment. It's still in my name." She's not quite ready to stop paying the rent on it, not yet, having only had the house for a few months. It's closer to Jesse as well, and she likes having some space. Rebekah keeps her arm tight around Hayley, not wanting anything to happen to her or the baby. When she sees the door, she breathes a sigh of relief. "Jesse, I can support her. You call my brother, seeing as somebody is going to be absolutely no use."
